Lin Rountree – born September 15, 1971 in New York, New York – is a smooth jazz/R&B trumpeter, composer, and producer. Nicknamed ‘The Soul Trumpeter’, Rountree’s musical journey began in Alexandria, Virginia when he started playing the trumpet at the age of 11. He attended music development programs at The Duke Ellington School for Performing Arts in Washington DC. After graduating high school, he was recruited into the music program at Florida A&M University, performing with Marching 100’. Rountree earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from FAMU and then relocated to Detroit, Michigan. There, he formed his own band and began playing live throughout the region. He released his first album, Groovetree, in 2005. Beginning with that release, he became a staple on the smooth jazz charts. Rountree’s next album was 2008’s Sumthin’ Good, followed two years later by Soul-Tree, The Soul-Jazz Experience. Signing with Trippin’ ‘N’ Rhythm Records, his next three albums – Serendipitous (2013), SoulFunky (2015) and Stronger Still (2018) – were even more successful, the latter climbing to Number 20 on the jazz chart. The 2018 single “Pass the Groove” hit Number 1 for three consecutive weeks. Rountree’s tracks have been featured on several compilations including several of The Ultimate Smooth Jazz #1’s series.
