In 1984, the New York production collective Full Force was behind the formation of Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam. Led by Latina-born singer Lisa Velez (Lisa Lisa), the group became a forerunner in the R&B dance style. Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam scored a string of hits from 1987 onwards, with "Head to Toe", "Lost in Emotion " and "Let the Beat Hit 'Em " being their main French hits. Split up in 1991 after the failure of their album Straight Outta Hell's Kitchen, Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam continued to exist modestly via their singer Lisa Lisa. The latter released two albums without any particular sparkle.
