An alternative rock band inspired by folk music and The Beatles' classic pop, Los Bunkers formed in 1999 in Concepción, Chile. The group's founding lineup consisted of two pairs of brothers — Álvaro and Gonzalo López, as well as Francisco and Mauricio Durán — and original drummer Manuel Lagos, who was replaced by Mauricio Basualto in 2001. After introducing their sound with singles like "El Detenido" and "Yo Sembré Mis Penas de Amor en tu Jardín," the band released its debut album, Los Bunkers, in 2001. As the band's career evolved, Los Bunkers began borrowing heavily from the Nueva canción movement, adding Chilean folk influences to albums like 2002's Canción de Lejos. 2003's La Culpa topped the Chilean charts and marked the band's major-label debut for Sony Records, and Los Bunkers remained on Sony's roster for another number 1 album, 2005's Vida de Perros, before moving to Universal Music. 2008's Barrio Estación and 2010's platinum-certified Música Libre were supported by international touring dates that included appearances at Lollapalooza Chicago and Lollapalooza Santiago, and 2013's La Velocidad de la Luz found the group aligning itself with a new label, Evolución Records. Nominated for Best Rock Album at the 2013 Latin Grammy Awards, La Velocidad de la Luz featured the song "Bailando Solo," which became a number 1 hit in Chile. Following a tour in support of the album, Los Bunkers announced an indefinite hiatus. Though they briefly reunited for a one-off show supporting the 2019 Chilean protests, the band officially returned in 2023 with a series of dates all over Latin America and a new album, Noviembre, released in November of that year.
