Los Palmeras

A cumbia group from Santa Fe, Argentina, Los Palmeras was founded in 1969, initially under the name Sexteto Palmeras. Despite frequent changes of personnel, the group opened its recording account in 1976 with Volumen 1. It was not until 1983, however, that the group really changed dimension, obtaining its first gold disc with Cumbia y luna in 1983, and confirming its popularity the following year with the discs Por siempre and Corazón no me preguntes. The latter included one of Los Palmeras' biggest hits, "La suavecita", which took cumbia far beyond local borders. Other gold discs followed in the decades that followed. In 1993, they won one for Ayer, hoy y siempre and another for Tropibaile santafesino, and in 1997 for Un toque diferente. El sonido original went platinum in 1998, while Voló la paloma went platinum in 1999. From Irreemplazables in 2000 onwards, all their albums went gold, including Te va a gustar in 2005, which featured the hit "Doble Vida", which was given a new lease of life in 2017 (no. 95), revisited with the Santa Fe Philharmonic Orchestra on the album Sinfónico 45 Años - En Vivo.
