Anchored by the harmonic blend of dual vocalists Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig, Lucius is an indie-pop band formed in 2007 in Brooklyn, New York. Wolfe and Laessig had met two years earlier in Boston, while both singers were students at Berklee College of Music. Relocating to Brooklyn in 2007, they moved into a Victorian mansion and began working on their independent debut, Songs from the Bromley House, which was released in 2009. Drummer Dan Molad and guitarist Peter Lalish joined the band one year later, and the band released a self-titled EP in 2012 before earning a wide audience with 2013's Wildewoman. Released by Mom + Pop Music, Wildewoman featured the career-launching single "Turn It Around," which climbed to Number 16 on Billboard's Adult Alternative Airplay chart. As news of Wolfe and Laessig's close-knit vocal harmonies spread, the two singers began appearing on other artists' albums, collaborating with Dawes, Tweedy, Shovels & Rope, The War on Drugs, and Pink Floyd's Roger Waters during a four-year period. They also continued to work on their own music, with the album Good Grief appearing in 2016. Good Grief was a Top 20 hit on the both the Billboard Rock Albums chart and the Billboard Top Alternative Albums chart. Wolfe and Laessig spent much of 2017 touring as members of Roger Waters' band and continued to perform with other musicians, too, contributing harmonies to Sheryl's Crow's Threads, Harry Styles' Fine Line, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats' Tearing At The Seams, and Ozzy Osbourne's Ordinary Days. After a six-year break from releasing their own material, they unveiled their fourth album, Second Nature, in 2022.
