Comprising three well-known members of the soul and hip-hop services, Lucy Pearl knows its stuff inside out. In 1999, Raphael Saadiq, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Dawn Robinson joined forces to pool their inspiration and talents. Raphael Saadiq, already gaining recognition as the lead singer of the group "Tony! Toni! Toné", decided to change direction and created "Lucy Pearl". A coherent direction for this lover of soul and the Motown sound; the choice of Dawn was a spontaneous one, as both knew and appreciated each other. Finally, Saadiq requisitioned Ali Shaheed Muhammad, ex-member of "A Tribe Called Quest", with whom he shares a real musical complicity. The three quickly got down to work, releasing their eponymous debut album in the spring of 2000. It was an immediate success, with tracks such as "Don't mess with my man" and "Dance" quickly climbing the charts. A successful debut for these three soul lovers with a gift for songwriting.
