Luis Miguel

luis Miguel Gallego Basteri, born on April 19, 1970 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, is one of Mexico's most popular singers, nicknamed "El Sol de Mexico". His father encouraged his artistic ambitions from an early age, urging him to analyze every Elvis Presley video and recording to work on his stage act. At the age of 11, Lui Miguel released his first album, Un Sol, on EMI Records, going gold. It was accompanied by a hit single, "1+1=Dos Enamorados" (No. 1 in Mexico). In 1984, the singer made a stylistic shift towards Hispanic pop rock with his fourth album, Palabra de Honor . Three years later, he signed with Warner and dismissed his father, who had been his manager until then. The album that followed, in 1987, was a great success, selling 2.5 million copies worldwide. After Busca una Mujer, ranked No. 4 on Billboard's specialized US Latin Pop chart in 1988, propelled by the single "La Incondicional " (No. 1 in Mexico and on Billboard's US Latin Pop charts), he released Romance (No. 1 on the same chart), featuring romantic boleros from the 1950s with a modern twist. The album sold almost seven million units worldwide. Aries, its successor released in 1993, won him a Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album. The same goes for Segundo Romance in 1994 (#29 in the U.S.). Two years later, Luis Miguel was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Romances in 1997 reached no. 14 in the U.S. and no. 1 in Argentina. During the 2000s, his success continued with albums such as Mis Romances (2001), 33 (2003), México en la Piel (2004), Navidades (2006) and Cómplices (2008). The last three of these hit the top spot in his home country, Mexico. The same goes for Luis Miguel in 2010, backed by the single "Labios de Miel " (#1 in Mexico) and ¡México Por Siempre! (2017).
