Luke James is an American singer, songwriter and actor from New Orleans. He was influenced as a child by legendary musicians such as Marvin Gaye and Willie Nelson, whom he was introduced to by his mother. Having attended high school with Frank Ocean, he began performing in a trio called Upskale. During this time, he was introduced to his manager and choreographer Frank Gatson. After moving to Los Angeles following his graduation, James focused on becoming a songwriter and began working with producers Danja and Tank. During this period, he had co-writing credits for hit artists such as Justin Bieber and Britney Spears. In 2011, he was personally selected by Beyoncé to appear in the music video for her hit single 'Run the World (Girls)'. The following year James released his debut EP '#Luke' having signed to Mercury Records, featuring lead single 'I Want You' which received critical acclaim and a Grammy Award nomination for Best R&B Performance in 2013. He released his self-titled debut album in 2014, and followed this by touring with the likes of Jessie J and Beyoncé. James has also forged a career in film and television, including a role as Sean 'Diddy' Combs in the series 'Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac and The Notorious B.I.G.'.
