Macha Gharibian

Born in Enghien-les-Bains (Oise) in 1980, jazz pianist and singer Macha Gharibian infuses her music with the Armenian roots of her origins. Of Armenian descent through her grandparents, Macha Gharibian is the daughter of guitarist and founder of the traditional music group Bratsch, Dan Gharibian. Introduced to music at an early age by her father and taken to concerts, the young girl received classical piano training. Building on this foundation, she toured with Bratsch and the collective project Papiers d'Arménie throughout Europe, as far afield as Georgia and the land of her ancestors. She continued her peregrinations as a budding pianist and singer between Paris, Yerevan and New York, where she came into close contact with the jazz scene, and recorded her debut album Mars (2013), with musicians David Potaux-Razel (guitar), Théo Girard (son of Bratsch violinist, double bass) and Fabrice Moreau (drums). Her Armenian roots are at the heart of the following albums, Trans Extended (2016) for the Jazz Village label and Joy Ascension (2020), the first for Meredith Records, produced with the support of Dré Pallemaerts (drums), Chris Jennings (double bass), Bert Joris (trumpet) and Artyom Minasyan (doudouk). In 2024, Macha Gharibian returned with Phenomenal Women, which reached number 13 in the French jazz charts.
