The American R&B singer Maeta was born on August 8, 2000, in Indianapolis, Indiana. She is known for her contemporary R&B style, skillfully blending soulful melodies with modern production elements. After getting some traction online through a series of independent releases on music-streaming sites, she relocated to Los Angeles in 2019 to pursue a career as a professional singer-songwriter. Maeta made her official debut with the EP Do Not Disturb, which featured her breakthrough single "Babygirl." She followed this success with the Kaytranada-produced track "Teen Scene" (2020), a slick, dance-oriented R&B number featuring rapper Buddy that accrued millions of streams across several platforms. In March 2021, Maeta issued the Skrillex-produced "Toxic" and signed with Roc Nation Records, delivering her first major-label release Habits in April of that year. Following a series of features on tracks by Tone Stith ("Something in the Water") and Vic Mensa ("Strawberry Louis Vuitton") throughout 2021 and 2022, Maeta scored her first charting single in 2023 with the intimate "S(EX)," which peaked at Number 27 on Billboard's Top 30 Radio Adult R&B chart.
