Malika Zarra

Jazz singer and composer Malika Zarra was born in 1979 in the village of Oulad Teïma in southern Morocco. She left Morocco for France at the age of three and juggled her two cultures. Malika Zarra learned to play the clarinet. Music is part of her life, and Malika became interested in jazz when she began learning to sing, because, like oriental music, the style leaves plenty of room for improvisation. To perfect her jazz culture, she decided to travel to the United States and settled in New York. She signed with the Motema label for the release of her first album, On the ebony road, in 2005. The artist toured the world, considered a revelation in Berber jazz, and confirmed hopes with Berber cab, released in 2011, supported by the singles "No Borders", "Tamazight " and the eponymous track. After a long absence from the recording scene, but having taken part in various projects and toured the USA, Europe and France, she returns in 2023 with the album Rwa (The essence), on which she invited musicians from all over the world.
