Mantar are a German rock band founded in 2012. Musically, Mantar play metal with borrowings from hardcore punk, stoner rock and doom metal. The band consists only of the two members Hanno Klänhardt, guitar and vocals, and drummer Erinç Sakarya. Shortly after the band was founded, the two musician friends set out to find a bass player. The unusual band constellation soon developed into a successful stylistic device. Mantar's first album Death by Burning (2014) landed them live gigs at festivals such as Wacken Open Air and Hurricane. A year later, Mantar signed a contract with the well-known rock label Nuclear Blast. the album Ode to the Flame followed in 2016. At number 67, Mantar also achieved their first chart entry in Germany. Further appearances followed, including at Rock am Ring and Rock im Park as well as Graspop Metal Meeting and the Fusion Festival. The Modern Art of Setting Ablaze, their third studio album, was released in 2018. Mantar made it into the top 10 of the German album charts at number 7. The album also made it into the charts in Austria (54th place) and Switzerland (53rd place). In 2020, Manta released the EP Grungetown Hooligans 2, an album with cover versions of well-known grunge and noise rock bands such as L7, The Jesus Lizard, Sonic Youth, Mudhoney and 7 Year Bitch. The next studio album followed two years later with Pain Is Forever and This Is the End. The album climbed to number 2 in the German album charts. It also entered the charts in Austria (number 69) and Switzerland (number 45). After a short break, Mantar returned in February 2025 with the album Post Apocalyptic Depression. The album jumps to number 6 in the German album charts.
