Classical pianist Mao Fujita was born in Tokyo, Japan on November 28, 1998. He began learning to play the piano at the age of 3 and studied under Yuka Matsuyama and Hajime Matsuyama until he was 17 years old. After winning several competitions while growing up including the All Japan Student Music Competition when he was in elementary school. He held his first recital in December 2013 before touring in Japan, Poland, Germany, Switzerland, and Italy. He has performed at many festivals around the world including the Chopin International Music Festival in Poland, the World Assisi Music Festival in Italy, and many others. Alongside his recitals, he has also performed with several orchestras such as the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra, the Virtuoso Youth Orchestra, the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, and more. Mao Fujita has won first prize awards at the 19th Japan Classical Music Competition National Competition Grand Prix (2009), the World Classic 2010 in Taiwan, the 5th Rosario Marciano International Piano Competition (2013), the 20th Hamamatsu International Piano Academy in Japan (2016), the 27th Clara Haskil International Piano Competition (2017), and more. After graduating from the Tokyo College of Music High School, he earned a scholarship to the Tokyo College of Music. Mao Fujita released his first album, Beethoven - Rachmaninov – Miyoshi, in 2013. That debut was followed by Beethoven, Liszt & Prokofiev: Piano Works (2016), Passage (2018), Listen to the Universe (2019), Chopin: Impromptus & Scherzos (2020), and Mozart: The Complete Piano Sonatas (2022). In February 2024, Mao Fujita released the Bach Transcriptions EP, which included Bach’s “Prelude in B Minor, BWV 855a.”
