The influential Peruvian alternative rock band Mar de Copas was formed in 1992 in Lima by Manuel Barrios (guitar and vocals) and Eduardo Leverone (drums), both of whom had previously played together in a group called Los Inocentes. Under the name As de Copas, they produced their eponymous studio debut, which included notable tracks "Fugitivo" and "Canción." By 1993, they had finished writing 12 songs, changed the band's name to Mar de Copas, and signed a contract with El Virrey record company. After some lineup changes, the group released their second album Entre los Árboles (1994), with the title track and "Tras Esa Puerta" earning them significant local success. After establishing their own independent label Mar de Copas Productions in 1997, the group released their third album, III (1997). Their fourth album, Suna, came out in 1999 and marked a major milestone for the band in terms of popularity. Mar de Copas continued producing albums and performing live concerts over the following years, releasing several compilations and live recordings such as 12 Grandes Éxitos (2000) and En Vivo (2002). In 2004, they earned a Disco de Oro award with the release of Si Algo Así Como el Amor Está en el Aire. Following an extended hiatus, they returned in 2013 with the full-length album Seis, followed by the compilation Lado B later that year.
