Production artist Jeremy Lloyd and singer Samantha Gongol make up the electronic synth-pop duo Marian Hill, with the name taken from two characters in the 1957 Meredith Wilson stage musical 'The Music Man' in which they appeared in a school production. Their single 'Down' attracted massive attention when Apple used it on a television commercial featuring acrobatic dancer Lil Buck for the wireless headphones AirBud in 2017. The track went to number ten on Billboard's Mainstream Top 40 Chart and number 21 on the Hot 100. Friends since they were growing up just outside Philadelphia, the pair reunited after attending university and put out two EPs 'Play' (2014) and 'Sway' (2016) that earned them a recording contract. They made their full-length album debut in 2017 with 'Act One' which went to number three on Billboard's Alternative Albums Chart, number five on the Top Rock Albums Chart and number 42 on the Billboard 200. They topped Rolling Stone magazine's '10 New Artists You Need to Know' list in March 2017 and said their album "matches ideas borrowed from jazz and blues with of-the-moment electronics and Gongol's gossamer voice".2
