Marianas Trench

Marianas Trench are a Canadian pop-rock band formed in 1999 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Fronted by lead vocalist and primary songwriter Josh Ramsay, the band are known for its grandiose, theatrical style, blending pop-punk, rock, and symphonic elements. The lineup also includes guitarist Matt Webb, bassist Mike Ayley, and drummer Ian Casselman, all contributing backing vocals, which has become a defining feature of their harmonically rich sound. Marianas Trench released their self-titled LP in 2002 but gained widespread attention with their second album, Masterpiece Theatre (2009), showcasing Josh Ramsay's intricate vocal arrangements and ambitious compositions. The album produced several hit singles, including "Cross My Heart" and "All To Myself," propelling them into the mainstream. Their music often explores deeply personal themes, ranging from mental health and relationships to overcoming adversity, delivered through powerful lyrics and soaring melodies. The band are also known for their cinematic approach to music videos and live performances, bringing a sense of spectacle and narrative to each project. Over the years, they've released several acclaimed albums, including Ever After (2011), a concept album that tells a fairy-tale-like story, and Astoria (2015), inspired by 80s adventure films and the struggles of Josh Ramsay's personal life. With a Juno Award nomination and a dedicated fanbase, Marianas Trench continues to be a dynamic force in the pop-rock scene, evolving their sound while staying true to their unique blend of emotional depth and musical complexity. In 2024 they released their sixth studio album, Haven.
