Mariana Brito da Cruz Forjaz Secca (October 30, 1994) is a Portuguese singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who goes by the stage name Maro (often stylized in all caps). Born in Lisbon, she studied classical piano from a very young age and wrote her first song when she was just 11 years old. After getting her conservatory diploma, she continued her studies at the renowned Berklee College of Music and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career as a professional musician in 2018. That same year, she released her eponymous first solo album, divided into three volumes. During that time, she also became a part of Jacob Collier's touring band and featured on the English musician's Djesse Vol. 2 album (2019). She is also known for her Itsa Me, Maro! video series, in which she collaborated with artists like Alex Isley, Ethan Gruska, and Eric Clapton. In 2022, she earned the chance to represent Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest after winning the Festival da Canção 2022 with her track "Saudade, Saudade." She followed up later that year with the LP can you see me?, which featured Milton Nascimento on the song "juro que vi flores." 2023 saw the release of the album hortelã, featuring contributions from guitarists Pau Figueres and Darío Barroso.
