MC Rick, born Erick Warley de Oliveira Rodrigues on January 9, 2001, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, is one of the leading voices in modern Brazilian funk, known for his raw delivery and infectious beats. Starting his career at just 12 years old in the Morro do Papagaio community, he gained local recognition with “Sarrou, Gostou” in 2014, mentored by Delano. Struggling to afford studio time, he taught himself music production and honed his signature vocal style. His breakthrough came with hits like "Nada Vai Mudar" and "Quebra Quebra Menoza," showcasing his fast-paced, rhythmic flow. Signing with GR6 in 2020, one of Brazil’s top funk labels, he expanded his reach nationally but chose to remain based in Belo Horizonte, solidifying the city's influence in funk music. His collaboration with MC Zaquin on “Não Nasceu Pra Namorar” became the most-played funk track in Brazil in August 2020. Known for pushing boundaries with explicit lyrics, MC Rick has since refined his approach, focusing on empowerment and high-energy anthems. Raimunda, his debut album, came out in 2018 and was followed by other popular LPs such as Rickweek (2020), Rickweek 2 (2021), Poder do Mineirim (2022), RICKNELSO (2024), and Aventuras do Nelso (2024), which featured the hit single "Penelope Charmosa." That year, his track "Penelope Charmosa 2" alongside Boladin 211 and Dejinha peaked at number 15 on the Brazilian Hot 100.
