Michael Ray Roach (April 29, 1988), or simply Michael Ray, is an American country music singer-songwriter. Born in Eustis, Florida, he was heavily inspired by his grandfather, musician Amos “Wilson” Roach, who taught him how to play guitar. After graduating high school, he formed a band and independently released an album in 2010, something that led to his discovery by future manager Tony Conway. In the following years, Michael Ray won the reality music contest The Next: Fame Is at Your Doorstep, where he was mentored by John Rich (of Big & Rich fame), and was signed to Warner Bros. immediately after the show ended. He made his official debut in 2014 with the EP Tour Bootleg, which featured the chart-topping hit single “Kiss You in the Morning,” also included in his 2015 self-titled full-length. Amos, his sophomore effort, saw the light in 2018 and quickly climbed to Number 5 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart thanks to the singles “Get to You,” “One That Got Away,” and “Her World or Mine.” Preceded by the single “Whiskey and Rain” (2020), an extended play titled Higher Education arrived in 2021. The EP’s title track featured guest appearances by ZZ Top’s Billy F Gibbons, Kid Rock, Lee Brice, and Tim Montana.
