Mick Jenkins, whose real name is Jayson Jenkins, was born on April 19, 1991 in Huntsville, Alabama, USA. He first came to prominence in early 2012 with the release of his first mixtape, The Mickstape, quickly followed by a second barely half a year later: The Pursuit of HappyNess: The Story of Mickalascage. Also a member of a rap group called Free Nation, Mick Jenkins moved to Chicago, where he joined YCA (Young Chicago Authors). After a new mixtape in 2013,Trees & Truths, he released a new single entitled "Crossroads" with collaborations from Chance the Rapper and Vic Mensa. But it was in 2014, with the single "Martyrs", that Mick Jenkins broke new ground, earning the praise of Timbaland. He then followed this up with the EP The Water[s ] in 2014 and its follow-up Wave[s ] the following year, before going on tour with French producer STWO. In 2016, he finally released his debut album by the name of The Healing Component, which soon made a name for itself in the sales charts.
