Miguel Poveda, born on February 13, 1973, in Barcelona, is a celebrated Spanish flamenco singer renowned for blending flamenco with other musical genres. Raised in Badalona in a modest family without Andalusian roots, he discovered flamenco and copla through his parents' records. At 15, he performed publicly for the first time in his hometown. In the early 1990s, after military service, he sang at the iconic tablao El Cordobés in Barcelona. Miguel Poveda's breakthrough came in 1993 when he won multiple awards, including the prestigious Lámpara Minera, at the Festival del Cante de las Minas. This success led to his debut album Viento del Este in 1995 and launched him into national and international festivals. His collaborations with renowned musicians and poets further shaped his artistry, notably in his album Desglaç (2005), which bridged Catalan poetry and flamenco. In 2009, he released the double album Coplas del querer, earning a Latin Grammy nomination and significant acclaim. His innovative works, such as arteSano (2012) and Enlorquecido (2018), dedicated to Federico García Lorca, cemented his legacy. Continuing to explore flamenco's depth, Poveda released Poema del cante jondo in 2024, honoring Lorca's poetry, and performed at major flamenco festivals, solidifying his status as a contemporary flamenco icon.
