Michael Robert Paradinas (born on 26 September 1971 in Wimbledon), widely recognized by his stage name μ-Ziq (pronounced "music"), is a pioneering UK electronic musician and producer. Known for his innovative and eclectic approach to electronic music, Paradinas has been a significant figure in shaping the IDM genre alongside contemporaries like Aphex Twin and Autechre. His work blends intricate rhythms, lush melodies, and experimental textures, pushing the boundaries of electronic music. Mike Paradinas launched his career in the mid-1980s, first playing with various new wave-adjacent bands before branching out as μ-Ziq in 1992 and gaining attention with the release of Tango N' Vectif in 1993 on Aphex Twin’s Rephlex label. He quickly established his own imprint, Planet Mu, in 1995, which became a hub for groundbreaking electronic music artists. Through albums such as Lunatic Harness (1997) and Royal Astronomy (1999), μ-Ziq showcased his ability to fuse intricate breakbeats with playful, emotive compositions. Beyond his solo work, Mike Paradinas has collaborated with other artists, including Speedy J and Aphex Twin, and released music under aliases like Tusken Raiders and Kid Spatula. He has continued to release albums of IDM as μ-Ziq over the years, with Grush arriving in 2024 followed by Extra Grush.
