The hardcore punk band Militarie Gun in 2020 in Los Angeles, California. Founding member Ian Shelton had launched his career as frontman of the Seattle-based band Regional Justice Center, only to grow frustrated when the group's momentum was halted by the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic. He used the downtime to write and record an EP, My Life Is Over, whose songs were more melodic and introspective than Regional Justice Center's own material. Released in late 2020 by Loma Vista Recordings, the EP served as Militarie Gun's debut, and Shelton quickly expanded the group's lineup to include guitarists Nick Cogan and William Acuña, drummer Vince Nguyen, and bassist Max Epstein. A second EP, All Roads Lead to the Gun, followed in June 2021, with a third EP, All Roads Lead to the Gun II, appearing during the final stretch of the year. In 2023, Militarie Gun made its long-awaited full-length debut with Life Under the Gun, a critically-acclaimed record that was hailed as one of the year's best releases by outlets like Rolling Stone, NME, and Stereogum. "Do It Faster," the album's opening track, became the band's first hit single in March 2024, where the song debuted at number 36 on the Top 40 Radio Alternative Songs chart.
