Launched in 1996 by the members of Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, Mo Thugs Family is a Cleveland-based hip-hop collective featuring various acts signed to Mo Thugs Records. The group's platinum-selling debut, Family Scriptures, was released in November 1996, four months after Bone Thugs-n-Harmony topped the Billboard Hot 100 with "Tha Crossroads." Despite Family Scriptures' success as an album, Mo Thugs Family didn't produce a hit single until 1998's Family Reunion, which included the chart-topping rap hit "Ghetto Cowboy." Although subsequent albums like Mo Thugs III: The Mothership, The Movement, and Family Before Fame weren't nearly as successful as Mo Thugs Family's first two releases, the group remained an incubator for hip-hop talent, with acts like Poetic Hustla'z, Souljah Boy, and Romeo Antonio all spending time in the group's rotating roster.
