Mogwai

Originally from Glasgow, Scotland, where they formed in 1995, Mogwai have created an original sound that alternates long atmospheric passages with saturated guitars. The group is also renowned for the violence and sonic power it unleashes on stage. Along with Tortoise and Labradford, Mogwai is one of the most emblematic bands of the post-rock movement. Their albums Young Team (1997) and Mr. Beast (2006) have become classics of the noisy genre. The Hawk Is Howling (2008) and Hardcore Will Never Die But You Will (2011) reaffirm the band's creative standards. Mogwai took on the remix exercise with A Wrenched Virile Lore in 2012. Following the soundtrack to the TV series Les Revenants in 2013, the Scottish quintet with its predominantly instrumental compositions continues its electronic rock exploration with Rave Tapes (2014). In 2015, just as the band is releasing a retrospective box set, Central Belters, featuring its most iconic tracks and previously unreleased material, John Cummings announces that he will no longer hold the position of guitarist, choosing to give priority to personal musical projects. In 2016, the band refocused the debate with the album Atomic, which was originally the soundtrack to a documentary about life and death in the atomic age. 2017 saw Mogwai consolidate their rich discography with the album Every Country's Sun , and in 2018 the band released a new soundtrack, for the film Kin. In 2020, the Scottish band creates the soundtrack for the ZeroZeroZero series . On February 19, 2021, 25 years to the day after the release of their first single, "Tuner/Lower", Mogwai unveil As the Love Continues, once again produced by Dave Fridmann, who has worked alongside the band since 1999, but this time from a distance, from the USA, due to the Covid-19 epidemic. The #1 album in the UK charts was followed in 2022 by the soundtrack to the first season of the Black Bird series, and in 2024 by the documentary Mogwai: If the Stars Had a Sound. The band then collaborated with producer John Congleton on the album The Bad Fire, released in 2025.
