Muff Potter

A German rock band influenced by the punk movement, Muff Potter was formed in Rheine in 1993 around guitarist and singer Thorsten "Nagel" Nagelschmidt. Taking their name from a character in Mark Twain's novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876), the band recorded a demo cassette the following year, before releasing their first vinyl-only album of the same name, Muff Potter (1996). After the departure of drummer Mongo, replaced by Thorsten Brameier in 1994, the band faced the successive resignations of guitarist Bernd Ahlert (1996) and bassist Mark Wübker (2000), while the albums Schrei Wenn Du Brennst! (1997) and Bordsteinkantengeschichten (2000) were released, with new guitarist and vocalist Dennis Scheider (present from 1996 to 2021) and bassist Dominic Laurenz on the latter. In 2003, the band called on singer Jule Märs for the album Heute Wird Gewonnen, Bitte and the tour that followed. The album Von Wegen, released in 2005, is the band's first to penetrate the German charts, reaching No. 94, while the single "Alles Was Ich Brauch" reaches No. 88. Muff Potter, who recorded his first English-language album My Huckleberry Friend (2006), replicated this performance with the following Steady Fremdkörper (2007), charted at No. 40, and its hit "Fotoautomat" (No. 99), then Gute Aussicht (2009), charted at No. 56, before going their separate ways. In 2022, Muff Potter returned with a new line-up including Nagelschmidt, Laurenz, Brameier and new guitarist Felix Gebhard, with the album Bei Aller Liebe, which reached No. 8 in Germany.
