Hard-drinking, fire-breathing, sleaze metal band Nashville Pussy have been on the road touring dingy underground clubs since the mid-1990s, but remain one of the wildest, high octane raw shows in rock history. Guitarist Ruyter Suys grew up playing with her father and was cranking out Led Zeppelin, David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix licks from an early age, but went on to study fine arts at university and was working as a bronze caster and driving a tractor on a wheat farm when she met and married musician Blaine Cartwright after a wild weekend in Saskatoon in 1993. Describing their marriage as "a one-night stand gone real wrong", the pair formed Nashville Pussy together after Cartwright's heavy cowpunk band Nine Pound Hammer failed and their 1998 debut album 'Let Them Eat Pussy' was a typically raucous, full-throttle, head banging explosion of whiskey-soaked AC/DC riffs and bawdy, rock and roll anthems. Their track 'Fried Chicken and Coffee' was nominated for Best Metal Performance at the Grammy Awards and they played arena shows for the first time when they supported Marilyn Manson on tour, but their reputation as rock outlaws was enhanced by their ear-bleeding, hyperactive live gigs. Their albums 'High As Hell', 'Say Something Nasty' and 'From Hell to Texas' stuck loyally to their wild-living, hard-riffing format and after touring with their heroes Motörhead, Lemmy Kilmister declared them "America's last great rock and roll band". Supporting ZZ Top in the US in 2015 was another high point for the group and Suys also started side project Dick Delicious and the Tasty Testicles, but they continued to tour relentlessly across Europe, Australia and South America while releasing albums such as 'Up the Dosage' in 2014 and 'Pleased to Eat You' in 2018.
