Nicholas Teo is the stage name of Malaysian-Chinese singer and actor Zhāng Dòngliáng, born on November 29, 1981, in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. After winning an interuniversity singing competition during his study abroad experience in Taiwan, he returned to his home country and took home the grand prize at the 2002 Astro Talent Quest show, landing a record deal with Taiwanese label Music Street in 2003. 1st Choice Nicholas, his first studio album, was released in 2004 to great commercial success and was followed by the equally popular Nicholas (2005), Only Nicholas (2006), and Prince Nicholas (2007). Over the next few years, he achieved widespread as an actor, starring in the TV dramas Smiling Pasta and Invincible Shan Bao Mei while also contributing to their respective original soundtracks. In 2008, he released the compilation From Now On, which contained previously unreleased material as well as some of his most successful hit singles, including "Loneliness," "Because of You," and "A Wound in the Heart." Even though his musical output waned in the following decade, Nicholas Teo remained one of the most beloved artists in Mandopop through releases such as Let's Not Fall in Love Again (2011), To Be Nicholas Teo (2015), and The Best is Yet to Come (2018), which earned him a Malaysia AIM Chinese Awards for Best Production in 2020. "You Are Missing From Me," his first single in almost four years, was released in 2023.
