Nickelback

Based in Vancouver, Nickelback are one of Canada's biggest success stories, with over 30 million record sales around the world; in the US, they are second only to The Beatles in sales through the 2000s. Bass player Mike Kroeger once worked in a well known coffee shop and often spoke the phrase "Here's your nickel back" while serving customers and he and his brother Chad adopted the phrase as the name for their band. Originally an indie band, Nickelback's first album 'Curb' sold modestly to a localised audience, but when EMI/Roadrunner signed them and released their second abum 'The State', their big sound and raw power found a huge audience. The single 'How You Remind Me' topped the US chart and the 2003 album 'The Long Road' sold five million copies and firmly established them on an international stage, but even that was eclipsed by 2005's 'All the Right Reasons', which has sold nearly eight million copies. After spending a couple of years touring the world after 'All the Right Reasons', they took some time off in 2007 and came back with 'Dark Horse' in 2008. The album retained its spot in the Billboard 200 for 125 consecutive weeks and ranked at number 191 of Billboard's 200 Albums of the Decade. 'Here and Now' was released in 2011 peaking at number two in the Billboard 200 followed by 'The Best of Nickelback Volume 1' in 2013. They announced that their eighth album 'No Fixed Address' would be released in 2014, preceded by the singles 'Edge of a Revolution' and 'What Are You Waiting For?'. Although many fans discounted 'Edge of a Revolution' as a Nickelback song due to its political nature, and the album became the band's first effort to not make number one in the Canadian Charts, it still did fairly well in the US, making number four on the Billboard 200. In 2014 the band had to cancel the majority of their No Fixed Address tour as front man Chad Kroeger underwent surgery on his vocal cords. Due to the cancellations, they found themselves suffocating in legal bills and they recorded and released a much needed record in 2017 called 'Feed the Machine'.
