Born on September 29, 1949 in Donnacona (Canada) and died on February 19, 2019 in Montreal (Canada), Nicole Martin was a Quebec pop singer. She made her debut at the age of 14 as a singer and entertainer in Quebec City clubs. In 1965, she formed the duo Nicole et Frédéric with singer Frédéric Boudreau. During their five years together, they released four singles and a live album entitled Nicole & Frédéric En Spectacle . In 1972, she released her first solo single, Une Photo de toi . She released her first album in 1973, entitled La Première Nuit d'Amour . She travelled to Europe for the first time in 1974. She took part in the Festival de la Rose d'or d'Antibes, winning the interpretation prize for her song " Ce serait dommage ". The same year, she recorded her eponymous album in Paris. The song " Oui paraît-il " became one of the album's biggest hits. In 1976, she released L'Hymne À l'Amour , featuring a cover of the title track, an Edith Piaf hit. Nicole Martin released a second self-titled album in 1977, which went platinum that same year, selling over 100,000 copies. Three songs from this album reached the top 5 of the radio charts: " Cet enfant de toi ", " Je lui dirai " and " Rien n'est impossible ". In the spring of 1978, the opus Ne T'En Va Pas was released, and two songs became number ones: the title track, which stayed at the top for 1 week, and " Vivre libre ", which stayed there for 4 weeks. She released two albums in 1979, Laisse-Moi Partir and a holiday album entitled Noël avec Nicole Martin , which sold over 300,000 copies and was certified triple platinum. That same year, she was the guest star at the very first ADISQ Gala. Between 1981 and 1984, she produced three more albums, which were much less successful than their predecessors. In the winter of 1986, she made her debut as a television host with the program En Chansons , broadcast on the TVA network in Quebec. She spent the 1990s as a director and producer. From 1991 to 200o, she released eleven volumes of the Ce Soir On Danse album series, as well as four volumes of the Pour Party Seulement opus collection. In 2001 and 2002, she released her greatest hits on two CDs. After an absence of more than 18 years, Nicole Martin returned to the stage in July 2009, for a show celebrating the 40th birthday of Quebec comedian Patrick Huard. In March 2010, she released Cocktail de Douceur, an album featuring covers of popular jazz hits. The same year, she released a triple boxed set of 50 songs from her career. She died on February 19, 2019 in Montreal. On September 30 of the same year, she posthumously receives the medal of the Quebec National Assembly. In 2021, a tour in her honor is organized under the title Nicole - Les Chansons d'Une Vie .
