Nike Ardilla was the stage name of Indonesian teen pop singer, actress, and model Raden Rara Nike Ratnadilla, known for being the best-selling Indonesian artist in music history. Born on December 27, 1975, in Bandung, West Java, she showed great aptitude for music from a very young age, winning a local singing competition at the age of 5. She was discovered by a talent scout and signed with Arista Records for her studio debut Seberkas Sinar (1989), which topped the charts upon its release and sold over 1 million copies. More success followed with her second album Bintang Kehidupan, whose title track also reached Number 1 in Indonesia, earning Nike Ardilla two BASF Awards for Best New Artist and Best-Selling Album. She followed up with the full-lengths Nyalakan Api (1990), Matahariku (1991), Biarlah Aku Mengalah (1992), and Biarkan Cintamu Berlalu (1994), all of which enjoyed enormous popularity in Indonesia, racking up numerous awards and accolades. Shortly after releasing her seventh album Sandiwara Cinta in March 1995, Nike Ardilla was involved in a car accident that caused her untimely death at the age of 19.
