Malaysian pop highflyer Ning Baizura was born Ning Baizura binti Sheikh Hamzah on June 28, 1975 in Kajang, Malaysia and began her recording career in the early 1990s. After winning the Voice of Asia in 1991, the following year she made her major-label debut for Sony Music with her album Dekat Padamu. Ning Baizura – who is of Malay, English, Japanese, Italian, French, Mandarin and Cantonese descent – began carving out a name for herself as a versatile purveyor of exquisite ballads, which she has sung in various languages, including Malay, English, Japanese and Cantonese. Over the next few decades, she went on to release another 14 albums, including 2001's Natural Woman, greatest hits collection 3113 (2006), 2008's EastToWest, 2011's 3 Suara with Jaclyn Victor & Shila Amzah and 2013's Kekal. In parallel to her musical endeavours, Ning Baizura has also forged a successful acting career, appearing in nearly ten films over ten years, including 2007's Diva. In 2006, she launch her own label, Artiste United Records, on which EastToWest was released in March 2008. In 2021, she joined a group of other artists including Awi Rafael and MimiFly for the single "No Corona!" recorded in order to raise awareness of COVID-19.
