NLE Choppa – born Bryson Potts on November 1, 2002, in Memphis, Tennessee - is a rapper who has also used the names YNR Choppa, Awakened Choppa, Baby Mexico, and Top Shotta. A keen basketball player when he was young, he started freestyling with friends at the age of 14. Early in 2019, the then-16-year-old turned to social media and uploaded a video of himself performing “Shotta Flow” while dancing and holding gun props. The song, complete with uncompromising lyrics, went viral with millions of views and sparked a bidding war among record companies. The rapper turned down several big offers, instead signing a distribution deal with United Masters and retaining ownership of his songs. He followed “Shotta Flow” with 2019’s “Nolove Anthem”, “Shotta Flow 2”, “Birdboy”, and “Shotta Flow 3” before scoring another sizable hit with “Camelot”. In 2020, he charted with the singles “Go Stupid” (with Polo G, Stunna 4 Vegas, and Mike Will Made It), “Walk ‘Em Down” (featuring Roddie Rich), and “Narrow Road” (featuring Lil Baby). That same year, NLE Choppa released his debut album Top Shotta, which reached Number 10 on the Billboard 200 and four places higher on the R&B / Hip-Hop Albums chart. Several more singles followed including the chart singles “Final Warning” and “Jumpin’” (featuring Polo G), both released in 2021. In January 2022, NLE Choppa released the mixtape Me vs. Me, which reached Number 14 on the Billboard 200 and Number 8 on the R&B / Hip-Hop Albums chart. Cottonwood 2, his second studio full-length, peaked at Number 9 on the US rap charts and featured guest spots by 2Rare, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Fivio Foreign, Kevin Gates, G Herbo, and many more.
