One of the most committed and distinctive artists in the world, Nneka's hard-edge music full of political lyrics and ferocious beats have made her a widely respected figure. Born to a Nigerian father and a German mother, she's rooted in hip hop with a unique African and European twist. Born and raised in Nigeria, Nneka initially sang at school and church but was always keen to break boundaries. At 18 she moved to Hamburg in Germany to study a degree in Anthropology. While also pursuing a career as a singer, she met Hamburg-based hip hop producer DJ Farhot and performed to critical acclaim as an opening act for Sean Paul. 2005 saw the release of her first album Victim of Truth, which received enthusiastic reviews and offers to appear all over the world. Her second album No Longer At Ease followed in 2008, caused quite a stir with its political lyrics about corruption and the plight of the Niger Delta and produced the hit single Heartbeat.
