The soul and R&B group Nodéjà was formed in 1993 in Quebec, Canada, by Barney Valsait, Mike Coriolan, and Patrick Chevalier. Inspired by the sounds of The Commodores, Luther Vandross, and Stevie Wonder, the band offered its first performances singing at numerous venues and gospel events in the Montreal area. They rose to fame in 1997 when they featured in the Dubmatique single "Plus rien n'est pareil." Produced by Gerry Stober, known for his work with No Mercy, The Pointer Sisters, and Exposé, their eponymous studio debut was released in 1999 and met with great critical acclaim, earning the group nominations to both the ADISQ Gala and the Juno Awards. The album featured hit singles such as "Quelque chose about you," the Gérard Lenorman cover "Michèle," and the Ginette Reno duet "Comment aimer." Despite the success of their self-titled first album, Nodéjà officially disbanded in 2000.
