The Indonesian rock band NTRL was formed in 1992 by vocalist/bassist Bagus Dhanar Dhana, drummer Gabriel "Bimo" Sulaksono, and guitarist Ricky "Miten" Dayandani. All three musicians were students at the time, and they quickly built an audience of fellow teenagers in the band's hometown of Jakarta, Indonesia. Initially called "Rooster," the trio changed its name to "Netral" and used that moniker as the title of the band's first album, Netral, in 1994. Netral featured a punk-influenced sound that permeated most of the group's early releases, including 1995's Wa.. Lah, 1996's Tidak Enak, 1997's Album Minggu Ini, and 1999's Paten. By 2005, Netral's sound had hardened and matured, shedding the youthful punk textures of the band's earlier work for a mix of alt-rock sonics and sophisticated lyrics. The band's lineup had changed, too, with drummer Eno Gitara Ryanto replacing Sulaksono in 1998 and guitarist Christopher "Coki" Bollemeyer replacing Dayandani several years later. This revised incarnation of Netral continued releasing new albums during the 2000s and 2010s, including 2007's 9th, 2009's The Story of Us, and 2012's Unity. The band officially changed its name to the abbreviated "NTRL" in 2015 and released a new album, 11/12, that same year. A compilation of greatest hits and fan favorites, XXV, followed in 2018. "Pertempuran Hati," a track from XXV, reappeared on the Indonesian charts five years later, when it reached Number 191 on the Top Indonésie chart in early 2023.
