Orville Peck

Born Daniel Pitout on 6 January 1988 in Johannesburg, South Africa, Orville Peck is an enigmatic figure known for his unique blend of country, indie, and alternative rock. Shrouded in mystery and always donning a fringed mask, he has captivated audiences with his deep baritone voice and evocative storytelling since emerging in 2019 with his album Pony. On his follow-up album, Bronco, released in 2022, he continued to solidify his place in the pop music world, logging collaborations with artists like Shania Twain and broadening his sonic palette. The LP was nominated for Country Album of the Year at the Juno Awards of 2023 and was longlisted for the 2022 Polaris Music Prize. He has also added a string of EPs to his repertoire, including Bronco: Chapters 1 & 2 in 2022 and Stampede: Vol. 1 in 2024. June 2024 saw the release of "Midnight Ride" with Kylie Minogue and Diplo. The country-disco song went to number seven on the UK Singles Downloads Chart. "Midnight Ride" was among the tracks contained on his third studio album Stampede, which was steered by a cover of "Cowboys Are Frequently, Secretly Fond of Each Other." The 1981 song was originally written by Ned Sublette and popularised by Willie Nelson in 2006, who also performs on the Orville Peck duet. Elsewhere, Elton John made a guest appearance on a rendition of his Goodbye Yellow Brick Road classic, "Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting)." Stampede made it to the summit of the UK Country Albums chart.
