With more than 15 million record sales to her credit as a solo artist the Mexican pop diva Paulina Rubio is considered to be one of the world's most influential Latin performers. Rubio was born in Mexico City in 1971 and started her career in 1982 after joining the teen pop group Timbiriche and became one of a number of Mexican celebrities such as Edith Márquez and Thalía who used the band as a springboard to launch successful future careers. Rubio's debut album as a solo performer was 'La Chica Dorada' which she released in 1992. Due to the exposure she received as a member of Timbiriche the album was an immediate success reaching number two in Billboard's Latin Pop Chart. It heralded the start of a meteoric pop career which has seen Rubio mature into a top-selling artist, actress, model, TV talent show judge and successful businesswoman. Her best known album is 'Paulina', a collection of songs which spawned no less than seven singles and went to the top of the Latin Charts in 2000 being certified multi-platinum in many countries.
