Pearls Before Swine

Pearls Before Swine was the name of a band formed by folk rock singer-songwriter Tom Rapp in the mid-1960s. They made six albums performing a mix of folk, psychedelia and rock music and disbanded in 1974 when Rapp went on to a brief solo career and then quit to become a civil rights lawyer. Noted for poetic anthems that decried the state of the world, the group's first release was 'One Nation Underground' in 1967 followed by 'Balaklava' in '68. The original players left after that and Rapp hired other musicians for 'These Things Too' (1969) and 'The Use of Ashes' (1970). 'City of Gold' (1971), 'Beautiful Lies You Could Live With' (1971) and 'Sunforest' (1973) were released as Tom Rapp and Pearls Before Swine. The song 'Rocket Man' from 'City of Gold' was said to have inspired Elton John and Bernie Taupin to write their own song with the same title. Papp died aged 70 in February 2018.
