Acclaimed a cappella ensemble, Pentatonix, gained fame in 2011 during their time on music reality television program The Sing-Off. The group, originating in Arlington, Texas, formed when high school students Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, and Kirstin Maldonado united their voices, later expanding their lineup to include Avi Kaplan and Kevin Olusola, and the quintet gained attention for their cover of Lady Gaga's "Telephone" on streaming media channels prior to their successful audition for The Sing-Off. Their contemporary style, blending pop, dubstep, rock, and hip-hop, led them to win the competition and the group released their debut EP, PTX: Vol. I, in 2012. Over the next few years, their EPs, including PTXmas, PTX: Vol. II, PTX: Vol. III, and PTX: Vol. IV, all reached the Top 10 on the Billboard 200. Notably, their first holiday album, That's Christmas To Me, reached number 2 and achieved double-platinum status in the US. The self-titled Pentatonix and A Pentatonix Christmas both claimed the Number 1 spot in subsequent years, solidifying their status as one of the most popular a cappella acts globally. Their renditions of various songs, including "Daft Punk," "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy," and "Jolene" featuring Dolly Parton, garnered several Grammy Awards. With Matt Sallee joining the group after Kaplan's departure, the group continued releasing successful albums like PTX Presents: Top Pop, Vol. 1, We Need a Little Christmas, and The Lucky Ones, their first full album of original material. In 2021, their fifth Christmas album, Evergreen, arrived, featuring the single "It's Been a Long, Long Time" which they followed with culturally diverse holiday album, Holidays Around the World, the following year. The release of the original single "I Rise" in August, 2023 was followed by the announcement of another Christmas compilation and a tour, with The Greatest Christmas Hits appearing in October. The lead single, "Please Santa Please," reached the Top 10 and brought global attention, hitting number 3 on the US Holiday Charts.
