Born on 8 April 1952 in Camberwell, South London, Peter Perrett's musical career began when he formed The Only Ones in 1978; the band released three solo albums between 1978 and 1980 before splitting up in 1982. Their most notable release was "Another Girl, Another Planet," a commendably accomplished power pop song that resurfaced as backing to a Vodaphone advert in 2006. He re-emerged in 1994 with a new band called The One who recorded just one album Woke Up Sticky. His moderate and sporadic success was punctuated by long absences from the music scene, sometimes for years at a time whilst he battled with substance misuse. After effectively being written off by the music business, he surprised critics by releasing the solo album How the West Was Won in 2017. The album met with a positive critical response and was followed by two more well-received studio albums: Humanworld (2019) and The Cleansing (2024).
