It was here that he first came into contact with music, taking music theory lessons and learning to play the violin and guitar. These early experiences enabled him to get used to the demands of composition and to perform his first concerts. Gradually gaining recognition in the music world, he unveiled his first quietly successful tracks, 1900 Nineteen Hundred (1983) and Marre D'Être Seul (1984). The year 1986 saw his first popular success with his song "Un Enfant de Toi", a real hit in France, selling several hundred thousand copies. Phil Barney followed this up with his first album, Recto Verseau (1988), then Tour d'Ivoire (1990). His style, inspired by the long tradition of French chanson, seduces with the touching themes of his lyrics. Active and prolific, he composed a number of albums in the 1990s and appeared in films, starring in Ariel Zeitoun's Le Nombril du Monde (1993). Phil Barney returned to the limelight with a performance of his hit "Un Enfant de Toi" in 2002 with Marlène Duval, which reached No. 1 in the charts.
