Philippe Nicaud

A French actor born in Courbevoie on June 27, 1926, Philippe Nicaud is also known as a performer of erotic songs. After making his film debut in 1948 in Jean Delannoy's Aux yeux du souvenir alongside Michèle Morgan, Philippe Nicaud's acting career continued with numerous roles, notably in Le Dos au mur with Jeanne Moreau (1958), Voulez-vous danser avec moi? with Brigitte Bardot (1959), L'Inconnue de Hong-Kong with Dalida (1963) and Pouic-Pouic the same year, with Louis de Funès. He also appeared in several plays, including Fabien by Marcel Pagnol and Amphitryon 38 by Jean Giraudoux in 1956. Married in 1957 to actress Christine Carrière, in 1961 he recorded his first album of daring songs for the time, Chansons Cu... Rieuses, accompanied by Jacques Loussier's orchestra for the Barclay label. What appeared to be a trial run was followed shortly afterwards by 7 + 1 Péchés Capitaux (1962), a concept album released while he was playing the lead role in thirty-six episodes of the TV series L'Inspecteur mène l'enquête. Philippe Nicaud didn't stop there and, in addition to starring in the musical Le Jour de la tortue with Annie Girardot (1965) and writing "Allô, monsieur là-haut " in 1968 for France Gall, as well as other songs for Noëlle Cordier, Petula Clark and Nicoletta, he teamed up with humorist Pierre Doris and actor Robert Manuel for the album San Antonio - Déconorama (1969), based on the adventures of Frédéric Dard's character and set to music by Guy Skornik. The following year saw the release of what was to become a culteasy listening album sought after by collectors, Erotico... Nicaud, where pop and bossa nova from composers Léo Missir and Gérard Gustin meet the singer's tasty lyrics. This was followed in 1971 by the single "C'Ex" and other collaborations with Michel Leeb and Pascal Danel. After further roles on stage in Duos sur canapé (1972) and in film in the 1980s, playing composer Jacques Offenbach in Johann Strauss, le roi sans couronne (1987), Philippe Nicaud retired to Nice, where he died on April 19, 2009 at the age of 82.
