Born in Guam on September 19, 1996, pop singer Pia Mia began building an audience on YouTube before earning platinum certifications in America, the UK, Denmark, Australia, and New Zealand with her 2015 single "Do It Again." She had moved to Los Angeles five years earlier, working with mentors like Babyface and Nic Nac while uploading her own versions of contemporary R&B songs and pop hits to YouTube. After independently releasing her debut EP, The Gift, in late 2013, Mia was signed by Interscope Records and began working on her major-label debut. Although she left Interscope's roster before releasing a full-length album, Mia did score a global hit with "Do It Again," an EDM-inspired pop song featuring Chris Brown and Tyga. A platinum-selling success in five countries, "Do It Again" charted at Number 8 in the UK, Number 5 in Australia, and Number 71 in America. One year later, Mia appeared on will.i.am's "Boys & Girls," a Top 40 hit in Belgium, Scotland, and the UK. She then reclaimed her independence by launching her own label, Cherry Pie Records, and self-releasing her second EP, The Gift 2, in 2017. Mia released singles like "Feel Up" and "Don't Get Me Started" via Cherry Pie Records during 2019, then partnered with a new label, Republic, in 2020. "Hot," her debut single for Republic, appeared in late 2020.
