Playboi Carti, born Jordan Terrell Carter on September 13, 1995 (or 1996) in Atlanta, Georgia, first gained attention in 2015 under the moniker Sir Cartier before rebranding as Playboi Carti. He began his career by releasing tracks on SoundCloud, and quickly built a following with songs like "Broke Boi" and "Fetti." After signing with AWGE, the label founded by ASAP Mob, Carti’s career skyrocketed with his eponymous debut mixtape in 2017. The project, which included hits like "Magnolia" and "Wokeuplikethis" featuring Lil Uzi Vert, peaked at number 12 on the Billboard 200 and established Playboi Carti as a staple in the rap scene. In 2018, he followed up with his debut studio album, Die Lit, which debuted at number 3 on the Billboard 200 and solidified his status. After a lengthy hiatus, Playboi Carti released his highly anticipated Whole Lotta Red in December 2020, debuting at number 1 on the Billboard 200. The album was praised for its experimental, punk-influenced sound. In 2023, he made several notable collaborations, including appearances on Kanye West’s Donda and Travis Scott’s Utopia. His highly anticipated third album, Music, dropped in March 2025, featuring contributions from Lil Uzi Vert, Young Thug, Ty Dolla $ign, Future, Travis Scott, Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd, and many more.
