Potatoi, the stage name of John Cha (Cha Soon-jong), is a South Korean musician best known as the bassist of the indie band Wave to Earth. Born on August 13, 1997, he has carved a niche for himself as a solo artist, blending elements of pop, rock, and alternative music. His journey began with small performances at cafes and school events, gradually leading to his breakout moment with the release of his EP Toy in 2024. His sound, influenced by legends like The Beatles and David Bowie, showcases a rich, nostalgic warmth, often complemented by his passion for vinyl records. Nicknamed "Potato Boy" for his quirky love of potatoes, Potatoi is known for his whimsical yet deeply introspective songwriting. His debut single "Popsicle" (2023) and follow-ups like "Image" (2024) solidified his presence in the indie music scene. In 2025, he released "100p", further showcasing his evolution as an artist.
