Potshot

Potshot is a Japanese ska-punk band formed in Tokyo in 1995. The original lineup included Ryoji Ariga on vocals, Yoshito Hirai on bass guitar, and Yoshinobu Takegoshi on trombone. The group's debut album, Pots and Shots, was released in October 1997 under Asian Man Records. The album was well-received, featuring cover versions of "The Tears of a Clown" and "Since Yesterday," and showcased their unique take on ska music with high tempos and powerful horn sections. Following their debut, Potshot released a series of successful albums, including Rock ā€™nā€™ Roll (1999), Til I Die (2000), and A Go Go (2002). The latter included the song "To That Light," which quickly became one of the group's defining songs. These albums solidified their presence in the ska-punk scene both in Japan and internationally. In 2004, they released Dance to the Potshot Record, followed by their final studio album, Potshot Beat Goes On in 2005. After a decade of making music, Potshot disbanded later that year, playing their final show in Tokyo. Simultaneously, they released Potshot Forever: Best and Rarities (2005), a compilation of their greatest hits and rare tracks. In 2015, Potshot reunited briefly to release a mini-album titled Do It Again with Potshot, releasing new music after a ten-year hiatus.
