Chelsea Nikkel, better known by her stage name Princess Chelsea, is a multi-instrumentalist and producer from Auckland, New Zealand. A staple of the indie scene back in her home country, she has played with local bands The Brunettes, Teenwolf, The Cosbys, Disciples of Macca, and Hang Loose. She is a classically-trained musician and her style has often been described as “baroque pop,” incorporating elements from indie rock and synthpop. Her debut album, Lil’ Golden Book, saw the light in 2011 via Lil’ Chief Records and featured the hit single “The Cigarette Duet,” whose accompanying video went viral on video-sharing platforms after reaching over 62 million views. Four years later, Princess Chelsea followed up with the album The Great Cybernetic Depression (2015), a much more personal affair that reflected the inner turmoil she experienced during the album’s writing process. She returned in 2016 with Aftertouch, followed by The Loneliest Girl in 2018. “Kiss My Lips,” a collaborative single with singer-songwriter Jonathan Bree, came out in 2020.
