Destiny Nicole Frasqueri (born on June 14, 1992), better known as Princess Nokia, is an American rapper and actress of Puertorrican descent. Born and raised in New York City, Frasqueri’s troubled childhood inspired her to start writing rhymes at the age of 16. She began releasing music under the pseudonym Wavy Spice back in 2010, most notably the viral hit “Bitch, I’m Posh,” before changing her stage name to Princess Nokia. Following the release of Metallic Butterfly (2014), her studio debut, Frasqueri jumped into the spotlight with the critically-acclaimed 1992 Deluxe (2017), an expanded version of her 2016 mixtape that peaked at Number 25 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Albums. As a result of the album’s success, Frasqueri debuted her own six-episode show on Apple’s Beats 1 Radio (The Voices in My Head with Princess Nokia) and was chosen as an ambassador for French luxury fashion house Maison Margiela in 2018. That same year, she took a massive left-turn by releasing A Girl Cried Red, an emo-rap album that received mixed reviews. 2020 saw the simultaneous release of the diametrically opposed Everything is Beautiful and Everything Sucks, two albums that balanced each other stylistically and showcased the American rapper’s versatility.
