Bassist, synth and dj Alex Gifford began his career as a session musician, playing synths for Van Morrison and saxophone for the Stranglers. He then joined the dance collective "The Grid" and even worked with Peter Gabriel in his Real World studio in Bath, England. In '96, he decided to fulfill his own musical fantasies and compose for himself. Gifford joined forces with drummer Will White. Their first ep, "Dive", released on the excellent "Wall Of Sound" label, seduced Adidas, who decided to use an extract to illustrate one of their ads. Other singles followed, until their ep "Spybreak", and in particular their cover of the James Bond theme for David Arnold's compilation ("Shaken And Stirred"), propelled them into the charts. They then decided to fulfill various remix requests for artists as diverse as Soul Coughing, Luscious Jackson and 808 State. In early '98, they released their debut album, "Decksandrumsandrockandroll", which proved to be a big hit, mainly in Europe.
